Why Telegram groups are harder to find than channels
Channels get shared: a link in a tweet, a mention in another channel, a place in someone's list. Groups mostly get shared inside the group. That is why searching by name almost never works for groups, the name is often an in-joke, and the thing that describes them is the topic. The search above matches on names and descriptions of public groups, which is the closest thing Telegram exposes to a topic search.
Groups or channels? Pick the one you actually want
- Group, many-to-many. Everyone can post. Use it when you want to ask questions, get help, or talk to people. Public groups join with one tap.
- Channel, one-to-many. Only admins post. Use it when you want a feed: news, signals, drops, releases.
- Bot, a program you chat with. Set the filter to Bots only if you are looking for a tool rather than a community.

How to tell a live group from a parked one
- Last message date. Open it and scroll to the bottom. Nothing in seven days means it is quiet, nothing in ninety means it is dead.
- Members versus messages. Forty thousand members and eleven messages a day is a member-farm, not a community.
- Who can post. Some public groups are restricted so only admins write. That is a channel wearing a group's clothes.
- Pinned rules. A pinned message with actual rules usually means someone is moderating.
Private groups cannot be found, by design
Telegram splits its world in two. Anything with a @username is public and
searchable. Everything else, invite-link groups, secret chats, private channels, is
deliberately outside every index, including Telegram's own. No finder can reach them,
and any site claiming otherwise is showing you public results under a different name.

There is nothing to submit. A group becomes searchable the moment it is public and has
a @username. What you control is whether it matches anything: put the words

How do I find Telegram groups by topic?

The search queries Telegram's public directory live and returns public groups that have a @username, which you can join with one tap. Telegram's own in-app search matches names only, so a group called "Weekend Hikers" will not surface for the word hiking unless a dedicated finder searches for it.
What is the difference between a Telegram group and a channel?
A channel broadcasts one-to-many: admins post, everybody else reads. A group is many-to-many: every member can write. If you want conversation, you want a group. If you want a feed, you want a channel. This finder searches both, the filter decides which one you get.
Can I find private Telegram groups?
No. Private and invite-only groups are deliberately excluded from Telegram's public directory, so no tool can search them, ours included. Anything advertising a private group finder is either showing you public groups or selling you something. You reach a private group only through an invite link from someone already inside.
Is there a Telegram group search bot?

How can I tell if a group is active before joining?
Look at the member count next to each result, then open the group and check the date of the last message. A group with tens of thousands of members and no message in the past week is a parked name, not a community.
