SangMata bot and the alternatives
SangMata is alive and does one job well, with one limit that decides everything else: it only knows the history it watched happen. Here is what that means, and what to use for the parts it does not cover.
SangMata is a Telegram bot that reports the past names and usernames of accounts it has seen. Both @SangMata_BOT and @SangMataInfo_bot were live when this page was checked, on 15 August 2026. The limit that matters: it reports only history it recorded itself, from groups it was in. Telegram does not publish username history to anyone, so no bot can recover changes that happened before someone was watching. For identifying an account as it is now, Get Telegram ID resolves a public @username to the numeric ID that never changes.

Why "history" works the way it does
Telegram keeps no public record of what an account used to be called. There is no API for it, no page for it, and nothing to query. Every history bot in existence therefore works the same way: it sits in groups, writes down what it sees, and tells you later. That has two consequences people keep tripping over.
- Nothing before the watching. If a bot met an account today, it knows today's name. The rename from last year is gone, for everyone.
- Nothing outside its groups. A bot only sees accounts that appear where it is. Two history bots can honestly give you different answers about the same person.
Anyone promising the complete username history of an arbitrary account is either guessing or selling something.
What we have, stated plainly
tgkit does not have a working username history lookup. Our username history page is an explainer: how the tracking works, why the gaps exist, what to do instead. We would rather send you to a bot that does the job than pretend a page does.
What does work here, and is free and login-free:
- Get Telegram ID, resolves a public
@usernameto its numeric ID and type, with Telegram's own scam and fake flags. The numeric ID is the identity that survives renames, so it is the thing worth writing down. - Username availability, checks up to twenty handles at once. Useful in reverse: a handle that is now free usually means the account that had it renamed or died.
- Search engine and group finder, for finding where an account or a topic lives now, which is often the real question behind "what was it called before".
The rename trick, and the one number that beats it
A handle is rented, not owned. Change it and every old link to it breaks, and someone else
can take the name you dropped, which is exactly how impersonation usually starts: the
familiar @handle, a different account behind it. The defence is boring and
works. Record the numeric ID once, from
Get Telegram ID, and compare it later. Names change, IDs
do not.

Is the SangMata bot still working?
Yes. Checked on 15 August 2026: @SangMata_BOT and @SangMataInfo_bot both resolve as live Telegram bots. If one stops answering, the other is usually the mirror.
What does SangMata actually do?
It records the names and usernames an account has used, and reports them when that account appears in a group the bot is in. The important limit follows from that: it can only tell you about history it observed. If it never saw the account before, it has nothing, and no bot can retrieve changes that happened before anyone was watching. Telegram itself does not publish username history.
Does tgkit have a username history tool?
Not a working one, and we would rather say so than pretend. The username history page on this site is an explainer, not a lookup: it describes how history tracking works and what its limits are. What does work here is resolving a handle to its account and numeric ID, and searching public channels and groups.
How do I check who a @username belongs to now?
Get Telegram ID resolves a public @username to its numeric ID and tells you whether it is a user, bot, channel or group, plus Telegram's scam and fake flags. The numeric ID is the part that never changes, so it is what you record if you want to recognise an account after a rename.
Is it safe to add a history bot to my group?
Judge it like any admin-level bot: it sees everyone who joins. That is the whole point of it, and it is also the privacy cost, so it is a decision for the group, not a default. What is never acceptable is a site or bot asking for your Telegram login code in exchange for a lookup.
